Mouse in the House

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Sorry, I had to post this because I thought it was so cute... There was a mouse in my house and I finally caught it today (via Havahart trap) and let it loose in the woods (far away from my house, of course ;P). It was good enough to pose for a photo before scampering off (^_^)

Yeah, I guess some people don't like mice... I've always liked weird animals: mice, lizards, (turtles, of course), crabs... crawly things are cute (^___^;)

You work with rats?? (Have you named any Splinter? ;P) ...Wait, what do you do for a living, again? I think you've said, but I guess I forgot (>_>)

heh..yeah I like most animals. The only thing out there that really scares or creeps me out are spiders *shudders*

I'm a grad student doing biomedical research on drug abuse and stress.

Ha~ I don't mind spiders (although, I wouldn't call them cute ;D), but I really hate a similar insect: ticks (they're basically tiny, little spiders >_<) In fact, I think I dislike most parasites, anything that bites and doesn't let go... Ticks especially because, in my area, Lyme disease (which is carried by deer ticks) is a very serious problem =(

Oh, I don't think I knew that... Ah, that's right. I think you said something about studying medicine. Wow, that sounds so neat! ...I secretly envy people in the research field (of course, that's probably an opinion inspired by all the '80 movies with cool scientist-types as main characters. I don't actually know that much about it(^^))...

ug ticks..yeah I used to have to deal with those. I would always have to check myself over whenever I was in wood areas but I've never found any stuck to my skin..ick. My kitties would get them every once and awhile and they were hard to get off. It was so gross how plump those ticks would get over time.

hehe.. a lot of movies seem to exaggerate research and pretty much have no idea what goes on in the field ;) Oh btw:I don't even know what you do for a living..hehe.

Well, I don't really do anything for a living (>_<)... I recently started working part time at a tiny restaurant near my house, but I think I might quit tomorrow because I really hate it...

I have to move out of the area I'm currently living in; it has no jobs whatsoever (;_; that's what you get when you live in the middle of nowhere). I just need some money first...

☹Yup, my life has recently been seeming pretty darn pathetic. *cries*

Anyway, please don't disillusion me about researchers. As far as I'm concerned, you're all living the Ghostbusters' 'psychically predict the characters on this card or I'll give you an electric shock' lifestyle! ;D

the food industry is tough. I worked in it for years starting in high school and throughout college and then for two years after graduation. I even dabbled in cooking for awhile which was a lot of fun :) (before I became a ghostbuster)

lol! yeah..sure it's just like ghostbusters..hehe. oh man, and the funny thing is I did psychology research for awhile when I was in college which makes me wonder what kind of research the public thinks psychologists do. but my undergrad project was fun and probably made people wonder: what the heck?

Yeah, I'm a terrible waitress (>_<) It doesn't help that I'm a strict vegetarian, since I don't know anything about the food we serve. ...A BLT comes with mayo? There's a difference between beef and pork tenderloin? I don't know any of that stuff =(
Oh, and by the way, I didn't quit yet, either. I hate quitting. I always feel so bad about doing it... It takes me a while to work up the nerve to do it.

Ha, my favorite character in most fandoms is always the scientist/doctor character. I'm pretty sure that taste is inspired by the trend in TV/movies when I was growing up to show geeky characters as cool (heroes in the 1980's were always underdogs and nerds. ...Um, not that I think researchers are nerds. After all, I do realize that real like isn't as glamorous as the movies ;P)

So, would you say that most people don't have an accurate notion of what researchers do?? (you know, all that ghostbusting...)

Hehe..yeah, trying to memorize everything and keep track of everything can be stressful. I never had to do it in a restaurant though; I worked in a nursing home and a retirement home so I also had to learn everybody's names and their preferences.

Research is exciting to us nerds just not the same excitement in the movies. A lot of lab work can be mundane at times but once you get good results then I think it's exciting..hehe.

They make it out that we basically randomally work on these wild projects and pretty much do whatever we want. First of all, you need money to do the research so you have to map out strictly exactly what you're going to do in order to get the grant. Second of all, you can't just do whatever you want to humans or animals. There are strict guidelines to follow and a lot of stuff you have to go through in order to do your project.

Then recently I was watching an old turtles ep (the one where all these creatures out coming out of movie film) and the college student couldn't even remember how he made the stuff that did this. So, all I could think was what an idiot because you have to keep a lab notebook and write everything that you do so when you're writing up a journal article you can explain exactly what you did in the methods.

But those are a few rants anyways ;)

*nods head* Yeah, I know what you mean about the scientific method not being observed in popular media (and I just recently watched that old turtles episode, too!--I thought the same thing ;P)... Actually, though, I think the appeal of the high-minded researcher archetype is its thorough and attentive nature (which I, personally, am completely inept in ;_;). I think those qualities are things that the average person might overlook or under-appreciate... which, in my mind, make the scientist/researcher a sort of an overlooked hero. I don't know why movies, etc., try to downplay that aspect of science... but I still think the coolest portrayals are the more accurate ones (゜␣゜)

hehe..yes I agree.

I might be biased though but I've always noticed the scientist/researcher type characters growing up because of those types of qualities ;) I don't know if it's related to how the heck I ended up in this field though..hehe. I can't even remember why Don became my favorite turtle in the first place *scratches her head* but I think he was the first smart character I loved.

This is such a sweet picture. We always rescue them if they get in the house as our cats would murder them in short order.

It's funny that none of the cats I've ever had have had a hunter's instinct. I'm petless, at the moment, but all of my past feline pets were really, really lazy... Which I guess is a good thing because dead animals creep me out (@_@)

It looks like a baby mouse! I thought people killed mice. But if you live outside the city, then it was nice you set it free. *Trying to inagine you chasing the mouse with the camera*

I try to never kill animals (especially cute mice!^^). Besides, I think dead animals are gross... I'd rather set a live mouse free in the woods than have to clean out a dead mouse from a mousetrap (yuck!).

And it was a pretty friendly mouse! It even stopped and waited for me to take its photo! (^______^)

^_^ Yeah~ I love the little guys... Unfortunately, I seem to have another one in the house, now. And it's smart enough to keep eating the trap bait without getting captured >_< I think it's some sort of Moriarty Mouse!

By the way, thanks for friending me! I've friended you back Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket(cheers!)

(I'm trying to catch up with LJ after being away for a little while, so sorry for the random comments to old post *sheepish smile*)

OMG, that is the cutest thing ever!!!! That's such a great photo, the composition and everything is just perfect. Love it *3*

It makes me sad that so many people kill mice (and with those cruel traps to boot). Just look at this lil guy, posing so sweetly for you with his big black eyes ♡

Thanks for sharing this! I'm gonna have it as my desktop wallpaper now, hope you don't mind :3

Welcome back!!Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Yeah, I can't even believe people just kill the little guys. They're so cute and harmless... and it's not like it's any more difficult to let one go in the woods than cleaning out a little corpse from a trap (grusome >_<).

Feel free to use the pic in anyway you'd like! Sorry it isn't a bit better quality. My camera is nice and sporty (weatherproof, etc.) but doesn't take the best pics^^;

Ak, sort of unrelated, but just a few minutes ago I saw a BAT in my house! It flew up my stairs and disappeared... which means there's a bat someplace hiding up there>_>; I seem to be attracting animals!
